Women in Resistance Film Festival

One of my longest collaborator is the Bulgarian choreographer, dancer and film maker Zornitsa Stoyanova (BodyMeld). One of her films, Explicit Female, that I did the music for was featured in the German festival Poetry Film Festival – Women in Resistance.

ā€œExplicit Femaleā€ is a visual poem that takes on pregnancy and the act of birth as its theme. Making another human in oneā€™s body is often thought of as magical, beautiful, and peaceful. This film illuminates all that, plus the hidden trauma of the experience. Using mirror psychedelic effects, the body gets transformed into sensual ever-changing vaginas, organic-looking aliens, shapes and colors that later remind of DNA division. Deeply sensual, the sci-fi imagery lures the imagination while furthering the feel of otherness and alienation. An automatically generated voice speaks of the female bodyā€™s durability and the complete destruction of identity that happens to a new mother. ā€œExplicit Femaleā€ is part of a bigger performance of the same name that evening.

Here’s a preview of the film from the Philadelphia Fringe Festival:

Vipassana

I’m pleased to present a new album of meditation music. These sounds are offered as an inner reflection of ever-changing reality as a wordless guided sonic meditation. It’s Bandcamp Friday, so if you can afford to buy this one, I get 100% of the money as part of the generosity of Bandcamp. If you can’t afford the download now, no worries. Let me know, I’ll be releasing some download codes next week and I will send you a free download code to add this music to your collection take with you offline.

Vipassanā

As an extension of my weekly offering on Meditative Soundscapes comes a new album in the ā€œMeditationā€ series. This collection of music explores the broad and important concept of Vipassnā as a form of meditation. The album can experienced as a soundtrack to a wordless guided meditation to explore the ā€œthree marks of existenceā€ as the ultimate inquiry into true nature of existence. It can also be explored as a curiosity or background ambient music or as a soundtrack to your life.

Vipassanā (Pāli) or vipaśyanā (Sanskrit) literally, “special-seeing”, “special, seeing (Passanā)ā€, is a Buddhist term that is often translated as “insight”. The Pali Canon describes it as one of two qualities of mind which is developed (bhāvanā) in Buddhist meditation, the other being samatha (mind calming). It is often defined as a form of meditation that seeks “insight into the true nature of reality”, defined as anicca “impermanence”, dukkha “suffering, unsatisfactoriness”, anattā “non-self”, the three marks of existence in the Theravada tradition, and as śūnyatā “emptiness” and Buddha-nature in the Mahayana traditions.

Celestial Music Box

Because I received so many requests to give free access to Celestial Music Box (the generative music system that creates ambient music from the location and distance of the stars above you), Iā€™ve opened up the website so itā€™s free to access and listen to since I realize for many people during this economic hardship, supporting music is not possible. For me the most important thing is to share the sounds and that you might find some peace and well being within.

As mentioned, if you have the means and want to support Ambient and Therapeutic music the link to my Patreon is here.

With love and warmth from Croatia,

Sleep Stream, July Edition

Hello, I hope this email finds you well. Just a quick note, this weekend Iā€™ll be playing live for my monthly SLEEP STREAM series on the MEDITATIVE SOUNDSCAPES channel.
Saturday July 18, 4pm-midnight ET

SLEEP STREAM

If you havenā€™t been keeping up Iā€™ve posted about one sound bath piece of music a week on the YouTube Channel MEDITATIVE SOUNDSCAPES. These sounds are for exploring the slower and deeper states and the nexus of listening, attention and awareness. They’re usually 45-120 minutes long. They’re not designed to be “watched”, but more as ambient music while working, doing yoga, meditation, movement, writing, drawing, walking or resting.

Recently, Iā€™ve been posting a series there called COLOR THERPY that pairs specific musical frequencies with simple color gradient videos.Ā Today I posed a video using an orange gradient with the frequency 417 Hz the “RE Frequency”Ā from the ancient Solfeggio Frequency tuning system. The idea is that you put the video on full screen and allow to the color to wash over your room or closed eyes while you listen to its connected frequency from the Solfeggio tuning.

RE 417 Hz on MEDITATIVE SOUNDSCAPES

RE – 417 Hz
This tone produces the energy to trigger changes. This frequency cleans past traumatic experiences. This 417 HZ frequency acts at the cellular level by putting you in contact with an inexhaustible source of energy that allows you to transform your life.

Supporters of my Patreon can download these sounds from the YouTube channel to add to your own music library and to support me and the creation of this work.

Hereā€™s a comment from supporter of the Patreon (and an epic supporter of the arts in general)

“Love the pacing and sense of presence in this.
Really does help to provide relief through trustworthy centering of attention.ā€
Nicholas Croft, Meditative Soundscapes Patreon Supporter

Be well and please send me a message back if you are receiving and enjoying the sonic connections, I’d love to hear how your summer is going…

CELESTIAL MUSIC BOX is an ambient music experience that immerses body, mind and spirit in the healing energy of the stars. This suite of gentle tones is generated in real time using the night sky above the listener as musical score, to bring the ā€œharmony of the spheresā€ down to earth. Specifically tuned to healing frequencies, each note is generated by the position, brightness and distance of the stars, showering the listener with a gentle, deeply relaxing, rain of sounds. Listeners can choose to hear the stars from any place on earth and any time in the past or futureā€”giving your special place or time a new voice.   CELESTIAL MUSIC BOX will be an exclusive listening experience for members of my PATREON. Music from the Heavens

Wishing you and all sentient beingsĀ safety andĀ peaceĀ during these turbulent times.

TL;DR: Check out Celestial Music Box and support by Patreon to get access to the sounds.

I’m announcing an exciting new sleep music listening experience and I would love if you were a part of it.

In 2016 I started doing Sleep Concerts. During these concerts I play soothing ambient music for 6-12 hours while people sleep. They are very fulfilling and often moving experiences for me, but they are also exhausting often requiring several days for me to physically recover. During once such concert in 2017 in Brooklyn, NY I had an idea: what if something natural could trigger the notes while people sleep? Biorhythm sensors? Air temperature? A music box?! What if the stars in the sky could trigger sounds like raised dots on the metal cylinder of a music box? During the wee hours of the morning while emerged the clear meditative state that often arises from playing controlled, gentle music for so many hours, Celestial Music Box was born. It took several years of thinking and research, but itā€™s finally ready!

Imagine listening to music that uses the coordinates of the overhead sky at night to trigger notes while you sleep. Imagine going back in time and listening to the night sky the day you were born, your child was born, you met you soulmate or someone you loved left this planet? Imagine listening to the night sky over GreenlandĀ the night Amelia Earhart flew over the Atlantic ocean?

WithĀ Celestial Music BoxĀ you can choose the date and location to generate the star map above and listen tot he music that star map generates.

If you are having difficulty sleepingĀ or would like to hear a system of music supported by the sacred geometry of the universe itself, this is for you!

Celestial Music Box will be released on June 20, the Summer Solstice, the longest night of the year.
This music will be exclusively available to my Patreon supporters.

So in addition to the free music from Meditative Soundscapes I post there, you will be able to listen to generative sleep music system that I am sure will resonate deeply with many people.

Be a part of the community of Celestial Deep Listeners.

Philadelphia Inquirer Interview

Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing well wherever you are. I wanted to thank everyone who tuned into the overnight sleep concert stream on YouTube. There was a great article by the insightful writer Shaun Brady in the Philadelphia Inquirer that talks about Echozoo and the threads that connect Meditative Soundscapes.

Samatha

Hello. Iā€™ve got a new album out today. Scroll down for some free download codes for the first 100 people that redeem them! Also, Iā€™ll be doing an online (of course) SLEEP STREAM concert on my YouTube Channel this Saturday night.

SAMATHA

Welcome to Samatha, a new album of gently unfolding waves of sounds. This simple suite contains over 2.5 hours of long-playing tracks that move slowly with many pauses in sound to make room for your own experience. My hope is that this soothing, relaxing soundscape can bring some level of calm-mindfulness to your experience.

SLEEP STREAM CONCERT

Like many people around the globe, Iā€™ve been struggling with the agitation that comes from relative captivity from the COVID-19 lockdown. That has resulted in some level of insomnia. This Saturday Iā€™ll be going Live on my YouTube Channel. (Thanks by the way to all those that subscribed to get me to 100 subscribers so I can LiveStream!)

SLEEP STREAM

As an (online) concert experience these durational soundscape performances last from night until early the next morning. Ā These sleep concerts are an immersive, supportive sonic environment. A gentle sea of ambient field recordings and soft tones unfold over an evolving eight-hour concert.Ā

Themes of rebirth, Bardo states, stillness, the liminal space between sleeping-waking-dreaming-listening, processed environmental sounds and the edges of audibility are explored during these concerts.

This is a great chance for those who always wanted to experience one of my sleep concerts from your own bed šŸ™‚ Iā€™ll start at 9pm EST and go untilā€¦ I donā€™t know, several hours at least šŸ˜‰

with Mettā,
Michael

Echozoo on Sounds Curious

Hello everyone, two quick items about features for my Echozoo project exploring the deep-time of extinct animal soundscapes.Ā

You can hear one of my favorite podcasts Sounds Curious talk about and feature the work of Echozoo extensively on their most recent episodes.

Also, Dosage Magazine did a nice feature on Echozoo last week.

Third (I know I said, two things šŸ˜‰Ā EchozooĀ related item, is my favorite iPad AppĀ Borderlands Granular released a new version and I designed a preset in the App form myĀ EchozooĀ project! I used Borderlands extensively while designing and deconstructing imaginary animals soundscapes for Echozoo. If you have an iPad, even if you don’t make music, get it! It’s such a fun and adventurous way to sculpt sound like it’s putty in your hands.

Borderlands Granular

Be well,
~Michael
